Q: Where do I buy NEARLY ME® products?
You can purchase NEARLY ME® products at boutiques and Durable Medical Equipment (DME) stores all over the country.  It’s very important to find a Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF) to be fit for the correct breast prosthesis and bra.  Certified Mastectomy Fitters (CMF) are licensed to size and fit prostheses and bras for women after breast surgery.  Call 1-800-887-3370 for a list of Authorized Dealers near you.

Q: Can I order products from this website?
This is the manufacturer’s website.  We work with retailers and do not sell directly to the public.  Please use this site for your research and feel free to call us with any questions or feedback: 1-800-887-3370.

Q: Why is it important to have a properly-fitted breast prosthesis?
Breast prostheses are designed to replace missing breast tissue following a mastectomy, partial mastectomy, or lumpectomy.  Today's state-of-the-art breast prostheses recreate the natural appearance, feel and weight of the female breast.  It is very important to be fitted with the correct size, shape and weight breast form and the right size bra to restore your body's natural balance, alignment, and symmetry, thus preventing the development of spinal curvature, neck pain, back pain and shoulder drop. Be sure that you are fitted by a board-certified mastectomy fitter in an accredited facility to ensure that you are receiving the highest quality products and care.

Q: What kinds of breast forms are available?
There are several types of breast forms on the market today:
The most popular type is the silicone breast prosthesis, because silicone most accurately replicates the natural texture and movement of the breast. Silicone prostheses are available in full weight, lightweight, and extra lightweight, as well as in a variety of shapes and sizes. Other options are also available, including swim forms, and custom breast forms.

Extremely lightweight foam forms are also available for sleeping and relaxing.

Certified Mastectomy Fitters help women determine the best prosthesis and bra for their individual needs.

Q: I'm having breast surgery. When should I be fitted?
Consult your doctor about finding a Certified Mastectomy Fitter(CMF) in your area. Your doctor and CMF will help you answer these questions. It is usually important to wait until you are fully healed before you are fitted for a weighted prosthesis. Before surgery, ask your CMF about our After-Surgery Camisole and other items you might need.

Q: What is a Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF)?
A Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF) is a licensed professional who is trained to fit women with the right breast prosthesis and bra after breast surgery.   CMFs also help women with their billing options. To become a Certified Mastectomy Fitter or to find one in your area, please call 1-800-887-3370.

Q: How can I find an authorized NEARLY ME® Dealer?
Nearly Me Technologies, Inc. has thousands of retailers, so information about locations change frequently.  To make sure our end-customers receive the most up-to-date information about our retailers, we ask that you call us at 1-800-887-3370.

Q: What is covered under the warranty?
The warranty covers manufacturer’s defect only.  Please scroll down for more information.

Q: How do I clean and care for my breast forms?
Hand wash your breast forms with a soap that is safe for the skin.  Towel dry and store in the cradle that came with the form.  Please visit the Fitting & Care Page for more information.

Q: How do I choose the breast form that fits my bra size?
There are so many sizes and shapes in the NEARLY ME® brand that it is very important to visit a Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF).

Q: I have lost/gained weight and I feel that my breast form is no longer the right size.  What should I do?
Consult your doctor and your Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF). Your CMF can best answer your Medicare and health insurance questions regarding mastectomy products.

Q: Are mastectomy bras covered by Medicare?
Yes.  With a prescription from your doctor and a Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF), you may be eligible for several mastectomy pocket bras a year.   Your Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF) can best answer your Medicare and health insurance questions regarding mastectomy products. Ask your CMF about leisure bras and an after-surgery camisole, also.

Q: What do some of the terms mean?
For a glossary of terms, please scroll down.  The left-hand column of the products page also defines many of our frequently-used terms.

Q: Are NEARLY ME® breast forms only for cancer patients?
Nearly Me Technologies specializes in breast forms and lingerie for the post-mastectomy patient, but we also have a fashion line, a transgender line, and several other health care products like RETOUCH® Silicone Scar Reduction Sheets.  Anyone interested in wearing breast forms for size or unevenness should be able to find what they need.

Q: Can you swim in a breast prosthesis?
You can wear a silicone breast prosthesis in the water. Specially-designed swim forms are available to hold up to chlorine or salt water and preserve your everyday prosthesis.

Q: What can be done for natural breast unevenness or breast imbalance after a lumpectomy?
Partial forms such as Equalizers, Enhancers, and Modified forms can be worn to restore an even silhouette.

Q: After surgery, my breasts are uneven, is there a breast form for me?
We have several partial prostheses that can restore evenness. Shallower, partial forms include Equalizers, Enhancers, and Modified forms. Talk to your doctor, health insurance carrier, and Certified Mastectomy Fitter about partial forms following lumpectomy or reconstruction surgery.

Q: How Much Do Bras and Prostheses Cost?
A Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF) can best answer your questions about cost and Medicare or private health insurance coverage for prostheses and mastectomy bras.

Q: Will my insurance pay for my breast forms and mastectomy bras?
Check with your health insurance carrier, and bring your insurance information with you when you visit a Certified Mastectomy Fitter(CMF).

Q: Do you manufacture breast implants?
No.  Nearly Me Technologies, Inc. does not make internal silicone breast implants.  We only manufacture prostheses that are worn externally.

Q: Is the silicone in a breast form dangerous?

No. The silicone is cured and inert.  If a breast form tears or is punctured, the silicone cannot be absorbed through the skin.

Q: How long do NEARLY ME® breast forms last?

With proper care, NEARLY ME® breast forms should last several years .  They should remain soft and life-like and maintain their shape.  Silicone breast forms are very durable, but can be punctured or torn.  For more information about cleaning and storing your breast forms, please visit the Fitting & Care Page.

Q: What is the difference between a fashion bra and a mastectomy bra?  Can I wear a breast form in my regular bras?
It is recommended that you wear your breast form in a mastectomy pocket bra. Mastectomy pocket bras have been designed to fit with breast forms.  They are typically different in three ways.  First, they have pockets inside the cups to keep the forms securely in place and comfortable against the skin.  Second, mastectomy bra side panels are wider under the arm to offer more support and coverage in an area where tissue is often removed during surgery.  Third, the cup is designed to fully cover the entire breast form and more of the remaining natural breast.  Some fashion bra cup styles may cut across the breast at too steep an angle and would not completely cover a typical breast form.
Nearly Me Technologies also has specialty bras like the Leisure Bra for after surgery and sleeping, the Lace Cami Bra for feminine coverage in the center of the chest, and the After-Surgery Camisole with pockets for featherweight breast forms and drainage devices.

  1. Find a Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF) at an Accredited Store.  CMFs are trained to help you find the most beautiful form for you, help you use your insurance resources to pay for your forms and lingerie, and to help you through the emotional experience of finding the right breast form.
  1. Visit or call your Certified Mastectomy Fitter before your surgery because she may need to: special order your size, help your doctor word your prescription correctly, or help you get garments for immediately after your surgery.
  1. Bring your prescription and insurance information to the fitting.  Ask your fitter for help to get the right prescription from your doctor.
  1. Talk to your fitter about their privacy policy, and let her know your privacy needs.
  1. Wait until you are completely healed before you go in for your fitting.  Your body isn’t ready for the wear and tear of trying on several bras and forms until you are completely healed, and swelling might affect your fit.  It’s best to wait at least 6 weeks and to have a release from your doctor.  Puffs and foam forms are good options to wear before you have healed.
  1. Be prepared to be touched.  Your fitter will need to measure you and help you insert forms behind the cup of the bra.
  1. Be prepared to stay a while.  A good fitting should take at least half an hour.
  1. If someone comes with you, make sure they are prepared to stay a while.
  1. Wear a button-up shirt that is easy to take off and put on.

Accredited Retailer— A store that is authorized to accept health insurance or Medicare payments for post-mastectomy products.

Apex— The thickest part in the center of the breast form.  Some breast forms are designed with a higher or lower apex.  Some breast forms have an apex right in the center.  The nipple usually sits at the apex.

Asymmetrical— If you cut the breast form in half, the two halves would not be the same.  The Classic shape is Asymmetrical and only fits either the right or left side of the body.

Band Size— The band size is the number part of the bra size.  It relates to, but is not the same as, the measurement around the chest under the breasts where the bra band goes.

Bilateral Mastectomy—Surgery that removes all of both breasts.

Certified Mastectomy Fitter (CMF)— Post-mastectomy breast forms are medical prostheses that are important for a woman’s physical and emotional health.  After mastectomy surgery, a doctor writes a prescription for specialized breast forms and lingerie.  A Certified Mastectomy Fitter helps her patients fill their prescriptions.  A Certified Mastectomy Fitter is trained to help women find the right fitting breast form and to help them use their health insurance or Medicare payment options.  Certified Mastectomy Fitters go through training and testing about post-mastectomy products and patient sensitivity.  To become a Certified Mastectomy Fitter or to find one in your area, please call 1-800-887-3370.

Classic— An Assymetrical shape that only fits either the right or left side of the body.  The Classic shape was the first designed by Ruth Handler when she started the NEARLY ME® brand.  She designed it to match the cup of a bra.

Cleavage— Breast tissue in the center of the chest that shows in a v-neck or low-cut top.

Closure— How or where the bra closes.  Some bras close in the back, and some bras close in the front.

Concave— Curved across the back.  “Scooped out” so the center of the form is thinner.

Contoured— The back of a breast form is not flat like a table-top.  All breast forms have a slight curve so they fit well against the body.  Some are constructed with more curve across the back than others.  See Available Back Profiles for more details.

Cup Size— The size and depth of the “cup” that the breast rests in.  This size refers to how big the breast are and how much they stick out from the body.  The cup size is the letter part of the bra size.

Drape— When seen from the side, some women’s breasts sit up high, and some swoop lower.  This is based on the Apex.

Full— Thicker profile.  More projection.  Sticks out more from the chest.

Lumpectomy Surgery— Surgery where a small area of tissue is removed from the breast.

Modified Profile— A thinner profile that is scooped out or concave across the back to match smaller breasts or to fit over more breast tissue behind the form.

Modified Surgery— In this site, we use the term "modified" to mean that less tissue has been removed than with a "radical" mastectomy.

Molded— Most NEARLY ME® breast forms are made of silicone gel encapsulated in a polyurethane skin.  Molded forms are solid (but still soft) silicone without a skin.  Traditional Forms are Molded.

Non-Weighted Form— A form that does not replace the natural weight lost after breast surgery.  Generally, these forms are made of a lightweight foam.  Non-weighted forms are good for sleeping, healing, and exercising, but can cause health problems when worn everyday of the remaining breast is heavy.  Some foam Casual forms are slightly weighted.

Oval— Describes the perimeter shape.  A symmetrical shape with a round bottom that is elongated at the top.  Also called a “tear-drop”.  See Available Shapes or more details.

Polyurethane— Thin, supple plastic that is used like a skin to encapsulate the silicone gel.

Profile— The depth at the center of the form and the shape of the front and back curves are related.  The profile affects how the form looks if you hold it up and look at it from the side.  The profile also relates to how much tissue is left behind the form.  See Available Profiles for more details.

Projection— How far the breast form sticks out from the chest.

Radical Surgery— In this site, we use the term "radical" to mean more tissue has been removed.

Standard-weight Gel— Silicone gel that is the same weight as human fat and, therefore, breast tissue.

Symmetrical— If you cut the form in half down the center, both sides would be exactly the same.  Because of this, each symmetrical form can fit the right and the left side of the body.  It does not matter which is worn on the right and which is worn on the left.

Tapered— Profile that matches the drape of mature breasts.  Elongated wings that get thinner toward the edges. Tapered forms have a thinner profile than Full forms.

Transition— Where the edges of the breast form meet the natural tissue should be smooth so that under clothing no one can tell where the breast form stops and the body begins.  NEARLY ME® breast forms are carefully designed so that the thickness at the edges of the form and the shape of the form work together for this transition.

Triangle— Describes the perimeter or outline shape of a breast form.  A symmetrical triangle with curved edges.  There are several versions of the triangle. See Available Shapes for more details.

Underwire— A metal or plastic curved wire under the cup of the bra.  The underwire helps define the breasts’ shape.  Most NEARLY ME® bras do not have underwires due to post-surgery irritation issues.

Weighted Form— A form that replaces the natural weight that has been lost after breast surgery.  Generally, these forms are made of silicone.  Our Standard-weight silicone gel weighs the same as human fat.

Whipped Gel— Silicone gel that is whipped to be 20% or 30% lighter than Standard-weight Gel.

Wing— The elongated edges of a breast form.
